Mujiv Hataman to head ARMM until 2013 polls
ZAMBOANGA CITY — Former Anak Mindanaw Representative Mujiv Hataman has been chosen to head the five-province Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) until new officials have been elected and assumed office next year, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo confirmed on Saturday.
Robredo told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone that President Benigno Aquino III signed Hataman’s appointment as ARMM caretaker governor about three days ago.
He will formally assume office on Thursday or Friday next week, Robredo said.
Hataman was among more than 60 politicians that Malacañang had shortlisted for various caretaker posts in the ARMM after Congress rescheduled the elections there to 2013 from August 16 this year.
The law resetting the polls had been questioned before the Supreme Court but no decision on its constitutionality had been issued so far.
‘Agong of Peace’ unveiled in QC
An “Agong of Peace” was unveiled Sunday beside the World Peace Bell at the Quezon Memorial Park in time for Monday’s celebration of the “Feast of Sacrifice,” a Muslim leader said.
Mujiv Hataman, former Anak-Mindanao party-list representative, said the symbol of peace was brought by the people of Mindanao who want their clamor for peace in the region to be heard.
“We are here, the people of Mindanao, to bring to you the message from our people. A people who long for peace in our homeland, because our eyes can no longer cry for the deaths and sufferings of our loved ones,” said a part of the prayer read during the ceremony.
PEACE is Our ONLY Option
We are alarmed by the latest news of intensified attacks allegedly perpetrated by the MILF. After the unfortunate incident last week in Al-Barka, Basilan, fresh attacks of alleged MILF guerillas in Sumisip, Basilan and elsewhere have now also been reported.
The intensity of violence had escalated and taken an uglier shift as attacks are now perpetrated not only against government troops but on innocent civilians as well. We are deeply saddened and concerned about the latest news report that alleged MILF guerillas ambushed a truck owned by a rubber cooperative leaving five civilians dead and eight others wounded at Sitio Along-Along between Barangay Upper Cabengbeng and Barangay Sapah Bulak in Sumisip, Basilan. Although there are unconfirmed reports from the ground that the perpetrators of this ambush are lost commands of the Abu Sayyaf Group, this incident as reported is already a serious offense hurled against the MILF.
